Builsa South MP calls for pragmatic steps in dealing with waste

Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South is calling on government to institute policy on plastics to support effective waste management system in the country.

According Dr. Apaak, as we face increasing waste and litter we could include investing in sustainable disposal infrastructure and improve waste collection systems.
He further called for the nation’s plastic waste to be recycled and use as filler for cement blocks, ropes baskets, mates and bag.  By this, employment opportunities would be created for the citizenry and waste monetized.

“Managing plastic waste starts with individuals at the household level; effective strategies to educate and motivate citizens to change their behavior” is important he added.

Dr. Clement Apaak was making a statement on the floor of the House and indicated that certain types of plastics may be safer for the environment than others.

However the troubling issues associated with all of them leading to conclusion that action is needed to remove plastic waste and strict controls are required to limit new sources of plastic pollution.

High-income countries turn to generate more plastic waste per person as compared to low-income countries; however, how plastic waste is managed determines its risk of entering into the ocean, he added.
