Why invite the EC when your party is against compiling a new register ---Majority Leader

Majority Leader Mr. Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has expressed worry over the Minority Leader Mr. Haruna Iddrisu’s conduct, knowing very well that his party was against the exercise the Electoral Commission is about embarking upon by compiling new voters register.

According to him, despite their objection to the EC compiling a new voters register he kept insisting that the EC comes to the House to brief it of its preparation ahead of this year’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

In an interview, he pointed out that he was surprised his colleague said the EC Chairperson Jean Mensah and her team were unable to answer questions on the data synchronization.

“The previous commissions before Jean Mensah, refurbishing the data centre cost the nation four million dollars a year and the new administration is building a new data centre for the country at a cost of six point one million dollars and they have issues with that?”

On the issue of the Minority pushing for the EC to meet the Committee of the whole despite meeting the Special Budget Committee, Mr. Osei-Kyei noted that EC and his team eloquently and precisely answered questions posses to them.

He again said, he is sure the Commission has nothing to hide, and if there is a determination made to the effect that there is something, we need to come together and address it.  The Minority Leader had said I was shielding the EC from coming.

“Let us look back into history where in the first quarter after their budget has been approved the Commission appeared before us, it has never happened”.

The Majority Leader was worried that his colleague the Minority Leader has saturated the atmosphere with untruth and added that it is not good enough.

“We are in the House together let us speak to facts if today there are issues we need to address let us come together as a House and address them”.
