COVID-19 Spread: “Gov’t is playing politics with our health”---Akandoh

Ranking Member on the Committee of Health, Kwabena Minta Akandoh has taken a swipe at government in the way and manner COVID-19 is being handled saying government is playing politics with the health of Ghanaians.

According to him, he is extremely shocked that the Majority Leader Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu who disagreed with the Minority Chief Whip Mohamed Muntaka Mohamed when the issue of two unnamed MPs who tested positive and thirteen staffs came up.

“Mr. Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu now know people in Parliament who have tested positive to COVID-19 and mingling with us on the floor. How did he get to know all of a sudden, who is he reporting to, he is the leader of the House what has he done about it?”

In an interview, he pointed out that the Majority Leader revealed that the National COVID-19 team would contact individuals who tested positive to the test conducted in Parliament House.

He made this remarks in the wake of the Majority Leader complaining last week Friday after presenting the Business Statement for this week that some people have tested positive to coronavirus and are still mingling with those who have tested negative.

Again, Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 26 by then had not matured and the fear of the Majority Leader was that when it comes to the worse Parliament would be shut down and the C. I would not mature.

“Now that it is matured he comes to tell us that there are people with the virus, I am ashamed. For me the Speaker needs to be firm and as a matter of urgency Parliament must be closed with immediate effect. If people have tested positive and are still coming to the House we are all at risk including you the journalists”.
