Parliamentary primaries should not be held when House is sitting---Majority Leader

Majority Leader Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is proposing to the two dominate Political parties in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress to look introspectively and ensure that their Parliamentary Primaries are not conducted while the House is meeting.

According to him during the time the Opposition NDC had their primaries, Business on the floor could go on and was not affected.

He was however quick to point out that despite the fact that the period before their primaries the House did not have much of the Minority members on the floor, business went on because MPs from the Majority side were attending to business in the House in their numbers.

He pointed this out when a question was put to him by journalists at a media encounter on the issue of quorum that came up a week before the NPP primaries on June 20, 2020.

“Today the Business is coming from Government and the ruling party lawmakers are not there to conduct business, it becomes difficult. The other day we had to suspend the consideration of the Land Bill because the Deputy Lands Minister who should help pilot the Bill has a heated contest in his back yard”.

He further noted that he is of the view that when the primary of the ruling party is over his colleagues would come back to the House for business to progress accordingly.
