Let’s protect the sanctity of Parliament---Haruna

Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has called for the sanctity of Parliament to be protected in the wake of the massive tsunami over the weekend that swept most of the Committee chairs of the House as well experience lawmakers.

According to him what transpired at the primaries of the ruling government where moneytisation became the order of the day calls for a national discussion on the subject matter.

“It does not warm my heart that chairman of the Finance Committee, Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah and Chairman of the Constitutional Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, Ben Abdallah Banda lost their primaries and would not be part of the next Parliament. On my side Joseph Yieleh Chireh and Inusah Abdulai Fuseini hard working MPs would not be part of the next Parliament”.

He further called for both the Majority and Minority caucuses to take a serious look at the situation for recommendation to be made to the parties as to who deserves protection from the caucuses.

“The Majority Leader should have a policy in the future where many more lawmakers experience and hard working ones would not fall victim, the protection of the Majority and the First Deputy Speaker served its purpose”.

He took the opportunity on Tuesday June 23, 2020 to congratulate those who survive their primaries and wished the losers better luck next time.

“There is a concern whether the weekend primaries is a vote which represent the will of the people or someone was not popular, again if government is unpopular or money is popular?”, he queried.
