Sanitation Ministry donates litter bins to Ministry of Defense

The Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah has presented six hundred customized litter bins to the Defense Ministry at a brief ceremony as part of its continues support to corporate bodies, communities and allied agencies in their waste management and clean up exercises.

Madam Cecilia Dapaah noted that the bin project is a nationwide programme initiated by the Ministry to promote good sanitation and hygiene in the country and first of its kind to another Ministry.  

According to the Minster the project would span over a five year period and it is to ensure that every part of the country is clean in the realisation of the vision of the President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The Minister noted that since the program was launched by the Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Osei Opare, a total of eight thousand one hundred bins have been distributed. 

“Donation to the Defense Ministry was to show an appreciation to the Ghana Armed Forces for their support during the clean up exercise in Accra, Kumasi, Tema and other parts of the country during the lockdown period”.

She further indicated that the donation was also to strengthen the already cordial relationship between the two Ministries and pledged to a donation of a pickup vehicle in due course to help in their monitoring duties.
In the past three years there has not been the outbreak of cholera and can be attributed largely to the special attention government has paid to the issues relating to sanitation and water.  

As the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources by the end of the programme would procure twenty thousand litter bin at the cost of one point seven million Ghana cedis.

The Minister for Defense, Dominic Nitiwul who received the donations commended his colleague Minister for the kind gesture and added that the bin would be distributed to all the garrison schools and military facilities nationwide.

Mr. Dominic Nitiwul further said the rising cases of the COVID 19 pandemic in the country and globally calls for renewed effort on the part of the military; it would lift the high safety protocol measures to contain the spread.

He promised the items would be used judiciously to support the government effort in the fight against the pandemic.

In addition, he assured the Sector Minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah of the continuous support of the ministry in the activities and programs of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.
