As first time MPs, we were met with a good baptism---Akwasi Acquah

Ghana’s Eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic was sworn in with a lot of drama and uncertainty, and Ghanamps.com interaction with most of the first time Members of Parliament had varied view of the start of the current Parliament.  

The Akim Oda lawmaker, Alexandra Akwasi Acquah in an interview noted that as first time MP he has been met with a good baptism and has come to realise that it is not child’s play in Parliament most especially when their constituents are looking up to them.  

“I had made a lot of promises to my constituents and I have said every disbursement of state resources would be done within the corridors of Parliament, so I am going to use my position to lobby and ensure that very good laws are made to enhance the livelihood of my constituents”.

Again, we have interesting times ahead of us and added that once his side has accepted to let go the Speakership to their colleagues in the NDC, it becomes pivotal that they are ready to play ball to ensure that they get the best for Ghanaians.

On the issue of which of the two caucuses form the Majority side of the House, he noted that with the communications from the Electoral Commission to Parliament, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is definitely forming the Majority now that Parliament has duly been constituted.

“Our numbers would allow us to sit at the right hand side of  the Speaker, we relax and decided to be at the left hand side of the speaker the first day because we thought we were going to fast truck issues”, he said in an interview.
