Leader of Government Business Mahama Ayariga has pointed out that the John Dramani Mahama led administration is opposed to giving blanket tax exemptions to businesses which are supposed to benefit from the one district one factory policy agenda pushed by the previous government.

He made this known during the presentation of business statement for this week, during which the Minority MPs questioned what the faith of business under the 1D1F would be now that there is a change of government.

According to him they are not opposed to giving anybody tax exemption to facilitate their business that has taxpayers value; “so if you are asking that we give it to you, we would insist that you comply with the law and we treat it as equity of government in your business or as a loan. So that when you do the business and makes profit you can buy back the equity and proceed to do your business – that has been our position.

We are opposed to just giving blanket tax exemptions”. According to him, the IMF says the country is wasting money, yet we come to them for money, “but we have money with a businessman, you would not take it, you waive it for him then you come to the IMF that they should give you money”.

Mr Ayariga added that they are willing to offer waivers but it should come in the form of credit to be paid back.
