In few hours the 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic would be dissolved to make way for the inauguration of the 9th parliament.

Preparations have been ongoing over the weeks for this day with registration opened for members of parliament elect in the December 7, 2024 general elections.

Already, Members of Parliament have started trouping in to the chamber in readiness for this dissolution with a number of them bidding their final official goodbye to the House as they will not be returning following their defeat at the polls or their personal decision not to seek for re-election.

The dynamics of the 9th Parliament would certainly be different from the 8th parliament as the 9th Parliament is to be a one-sided one with the numbers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Majority at 183 from what has been submitted by the Electoral Commission and 88 to the New Patriotic Party Minority with 4 independent MPs-elect.

The usual rancor that characterized the 8th Parliament would be nonexistent and this might give the government some smooth sail with its business at the House.
