Minister of Education, Matthew Opoku Prempeh has said government is aware of the challenges the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) is facing across the country, as everything is being done to address the problems.

n an interview after answering some questions on the floor of the House, he noted that emergency interventions are ongoing to fix the challenges.

As to whether resources have been allocated to address this problems, he affirmed that 80 million dollars has been allocated to address issues of lack of desk.

“When you look at the Free SHS document you will find out that it talks about four issues;equity, skills, infrastructure development, and quality issues” he said.

He took a swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) under the leadership of former President John Mahama, “they talked about putting up 200 secondary school buildings were they able to build even 15”?

“Let us talk about relevant issues, do you build a house before you marry, again do you wait to give birth to your children before you marry your partner?”,he queried.

According to the Minister of Education, President Nana Akufo-Addo in his first state of the Nation address said, “Free SHS will come with its challenges and they will be addressed”.

Mr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh said, he can confirm that 100 thousand students of Senior High Schools never benefited from even one scholarship during the 2016/2017 academic year the former President John Mahama administration promise, “we spoke to heads of the various institutions who have confirmed”.
