Oforikrom Member of Parliament, Elizabeth Agyemang, says she will lead female supporters of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, NPP, in the Ashanti region on a naked demonstration in the coming days if the Government fails to address their grievances.
“We are waiting for a while; if we don’t see anything, the women in the Ashanti region, maybe we’ll naked ourselves and walk about the streets for the government to come and clothe us,” Elizabeth Agyemang threatened in an interview with XYZ News on the sidelines of the party’s “ya y3 den” demonstration in the Ashanti region.
“Sometimes you have to do something to achieve what you want,” she added. The wife and mother said she will ask permission from her husband if need be before leading such a demonstration.
More than 3,000 supporters of the party poured out on the streets on Monday June 10 to demonstrate against the Government over “erratic power supply” to the region.
Led by the party’s Ashanti Parliamentary caucus, the demonstrators accused the Mahama administration of mischievously depriving the opposition stronghold of regular power supply as punishment for not supporting the governing party.
They also demanded that the government fix their roads and also stop implementing the capitation system of the national health insurance scheme.
