The outspoken New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Assin North, Kennedy Agyepong is pushing for his colleagues on the minority side to boycott their return to Parliament to work on the Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 73 establishing 45 new constituencies.
According to him, the minority should not attend the House to approve something they know is not good and not in the best interest of Ghana.
The Speaker of Parliament, Joyce Adeline Bamford Addo, by order 42(3) and the standing orders of the Parliament directed MPs to reconvene from 3rd to 28th September 2012 to continue its unfinished business of discussing the Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 73 which will establish 45 new constituencies.
The MPs raised issues with the date for reconvening as it clashes with the date for the exhibition of the Biometric Voter Register which is scheduled to be opened on September 1 to 10, this year.
They argued that they had to be in their various constituencies to assist and supervise their constituents during the exhibition period.
Speaking on Oman Fm’s “Boiling Point” programme Hon. Kenney Agyepong stated that the minority leadership’s decision to allow the new constituencies to be created because they believe the seats would be shared equally between them and ruling NDC is not true and will be counter-productive as the NDC will employ ever means sweep the seats.
“One thing I give the NDC credit is that they are always on top of the game, they understand it and will play the game to the disadvantage of their opponents’’ he said.
Hon. Kennedy Agyepong wondered why the government is in a rush to create the 45 new districts which is bound to create confusion in several areas across the country because of the mistakes identified with the Constitutional Instrument creating the constituencies.
