Mr Isaac Osei, Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin, has called on government to strengthen the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies to effectively deal with the filth engulfing the cities and towns.

He described the current state of environmental sanitation in the urban areas as disturbing – something that gave cause for concern.

He said it was important that the government provided the needed financial resources, equipment and logistics to support the assemblies to make things better and prevent the outbreak of diseases.

Interacting with journalists, after leading a clean-up exercise in some parts of his constituency on Saturday morning, Mr Osei appealed to the residents to change their attitude towards the environment.

The clean-up was organised by supporters of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency with support from the Zoomlion.

They removed silt from choked gutters and drains as well as heaps of refuse that had remained uncollected for some time now.

Mr Osei said the exercise was to encourage the residents to promote environmental sanitation and used the occasion to counsel members of his party to ensure a peaceful conduct of their electioneering campaign.
