As the Interior Minister Ambrose Dery was requested by Speaker Oquaye to brief the House on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, in the wake of the murder of Mfantseman lawmaker, Ekow Hayford, Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu requested that the Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Michael Oquaye allows “strangers”, non-Members of Parliament to stay in the chamber as the Speaker requested that the process be held on the Committee of the Whole.
According to him the Speaker yesterday led a delegation to the late MPs home to commensurate with family of the late MP.
“We need to assure Ghanaians and the general public of their security and safety, so with this briefing, if we can allow members of the public to be part, or we should have assurance that the Minister would brief the media after the committee of the whole meeting, we should not deny the public this opportunity”.
He further added that the public needs to know what the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is doing in terms of security, and wanted to know what the advice of the Majority Leader would be.
