Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu has cautioned his colleagues to take the third meeting of the fourth session of the seventh parliament seriously, as their mandate has not expired yet and would only expire on January 7 2021.
According to him, Ghanaians are expectants of lawmakers of the seventh parliament, hence the need to sacrifice to meet their needs, despite the fact the country is going through a major presidential and parliamentary elections.
Welcoming his colleagues back to the third meeting, he noted the country need to demonstrate to the World its democracy is strong and would continue to be envy to West Africa and Africa, and the world at large.
In another development, the Tamale South lawmaker pointed out that there is an ugly threat to the stability and sovereignty of Ghana, and pledged the House’s full support to the commander in chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, President Nana Akufo-Addo.
“He should deal decisively and ruthlessly with the threat, and protect the sovereignty of our country we cannot afford a disunited Ghana, President Akufo-Addo is campaigning to lead a united country, same as John Dramani Mahama the opposition leader. The President should uphold Article 4 of the 1992 constitution, which grantees the sovereignty of a united Republic”.
Mr. Iddrisu pledged the Minority’s support for the President to fully contain the Western Togoland’s attempted breakaway, which is a threat to the people in the Volta Region and can undermine the conduct of a free and fair elections in that part of the country. “We would support every effort to contain it”, he assured.
