Ranking member on the Appointment Committee Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has agreed with the decision taken by the Appointments Committee to dismiss a petition against a Supreme Court justice nominee.

According to him the Chairman of the Committee has expressed the Committee’s view, and he is against a situation where “we subject people’s reputation to undue public ridicule. I am happy that this committee has boldly stood up for democracy, rule of law, and in helping in dealing with matters frivolous as what came before them.”

He further added that on the ongoing petition for the removal of the Chief Justice of the Republic, “we have one Daniel Ofori, who refers to a judgement of the CJ, and was involved as a basis for attacking the woman and calling for her removal. If you also read, Yakubo Akrogo Ayamga, similar frivolous allegation that the CJ made some pronouncement against him in open court”.

These two scenarios have been deemed to constitute a prima facie case amounting to misconduct justifying enquiry into the conduct of a CJ and on suspension because of this, he stated.

“I am happy as a committee, we stood firm to the test, and we have risen above prettiness and triviality”, the Minority Leader emphasised.
