Majority leader Mahama Ayariga has revealed that Tamale would host the first conference of Northern People Leaders and Development Partners before the end of year.

According to him the non-political conference would bring together lawmakers from the Northern Region, District Chief Executives, Regional Ministers of the five regions in the north, Minister from the North, Paramount chiefs, development partners and major private sector players.

Mr. Mahama Ayarica made this known at the inauguration of the Northern caucus in Parliament House on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.

He recounted that the re-formation of the Northern caucus was an exercise that the development partners made up of the UNDP, High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the EU delegation undertook in the North where they try to bring together the various political heads, partners and NGOs to understand the issues of the North and how to move things forward. This was followed by a very detailed presentation to himself and his input also taken on board.

“In that meeting, I promised we would inaugurate the Northern caucus of the ninth Parliament, and we would follow up the exercise that the UNDP, British and EU delegation undertook in the North. As at the time they undertook the exercise, the political leadership has not yet been constituted, so the exercise did not include the political leaders”.

The Bawku Central lawmaker added that the conference is to see to how they can convert their deliberations into programmes that they can embark on in the next four years of their tenure as MPs.
