Chairman of the Energy Committee Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah has noted that Ghana discovering new bloc of oil would help attract investors to the sector as his information is that Shell and Exon Mobil have already shown interest.
He further commended the immediate past government under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo and the work done under his regime which eventually resulted in the oil discovery; stating that this would add up to Ghana’s over ten years journey of oil production.
“We are not there yet as one of the oil producing giants on the continent; we are coming up. This late discovery started from the previous administration and I commend the previous administration for starting this work; we have taken over as a government to consolidate it”, he said in an interview.
Again, we would make sure it comes on into the mainstream and add up to oil and gas production on the continent.
Mr. Bedzrah also commended the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), ENI and all others that collaborated to get this on stream.
He expressed optimism that the new discovery would rake in a lot of revenue for the country in the coming years. “Our annual budget funding, we have gotten revenue from this side, the stabilization fund and the heritage fund as well; and this would push our foreign exchange base”, he emphasized.
