The Minority in Ghana’s Parliament walked out during the swearing in of the Member of Parliament elect for Ablekuma North Ewurabena Abuynn.

Minority chief whip Frank Annoh Dompreh contended that their side cannot legitimize what they believe was a flawed and compromised process hence their decision not to be part of the swearing in.

Mr. Annoh Dompreh before the swearing in of the MP-elect sought the guidance of the Speaker to speak before the swearing in of the MP elect but the Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga on his part objected to the request made by the Minority chief whip and pointed out that whatever comment he had should have been discussed at conclave before coming to the floor.

He added that it has not been the practice; hence whatever his colleague has should come after the swearing in of the MP elect.

The Rt. Hon Speaker Alban Bagbin on his part agreed with the point being raised and indicated that the Minority chief whip would speak after the swearing in.

Meanwhile, despite the Minority’s walkout, the swearing took place successfully and Ablekuma North is now duly represented at the legislature.
