The 11th biennial conference of Commonwealth Hansard Editors’ Association-Africa region has ended in Accra with a call on African parliaments to invest in technological infrastructure, systems, software and tools to improve hansard reporting.

In a communique issued on Friday, August 15, 2025 Parliaments, legislatures and Assemblies in the Commonwealth African region were admonished to continually develop the capacities of their hansard reporting of their parliaments in modern technologies to enhance parliamentary reporting in Africa.

And further called for collaboration in the standardization of hansard and further training of officers as the parliaments were urged to facilitate and support hosting as well as attendance and participation in their conferences.

Furthermore, participants called on the Legislatives in Africa to support in the improvement of turnaround time in preparation, production and publication of hansard as well as effective adoption of technologies including artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the production of hansard.

In addition the legislature should make hansards readily available and accessible to the public.
