The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has won the Akwatia PArliamentary seat in the Tuesday’s by-election conducted by the Electoral Commission.
Bernard Bediako of the NDC pollled 18,199 votes, representing 54.30% of the total valid votes cast while Solomon Kwame Asumadu of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) trailed behind him polling 15,235 votes and Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) polled 82 votes out of 33,516 total valid votes, with 303 rejected ballots.
The outcome of the this election implies the NPP Minority has suffered a reduction in number from 88 to 87.
The National Democratic Congress has always maintained that they won the Akwatia seat in the 2024 elections and proceeded to court to redress. Therefore to many of the party supporters they have only retained what they believed was indeed their seat.
