The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abirem (KEEA) Mr. Ismail Saeed Zagoon has asserted that the much talked about Komenda Sugar factory would be revived to be operational soon with assurance given from the Trade Industry and Agribusiness Minister and affirmation from the Vice President Professor Jane Nana Opoku Agyeman.
In an interview, he recounted that in 2016 the factory was commissioned and unfortunately his party lost power and was of the hope that the then new government, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) would continue but that did not happen.
Mr. Zagoon further pointed out that the NPP indicated that their challenge was lack of raw materials which they failed to plant. But coming into power, they (NDC) have introduced a new variety to the farmers which took only six months to mature; and these were planted just behind the factory.
He is therefore optimistic that with the assurances from the two entities the factory would be revived soon.
Furthermore, the interim management committee visited the factory and met with farmers by encouraging them to go into cooperatives to take advantage of the opportunities the factory would provide when it is back on stream.
