A member of the Nigerian delegation to the Community Parliament, Senator Osita NGWU is advocating for the Parliament to encourage member states to move delocalised, seminar and extraordinary sessions outside the National capital.

According to him Ghana and Nigeria have led in the crusade of bringing the Community Parliament closer to the Community citizens with its activities in Winneba Effutu Constituency, Kano and currently Port Harcourt in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In an interview, he pointed out that lawmakers represent the people hence the moment you bring them closer to the people you are fulfilling what the parliament was set up to do. “We just came back from Lome-Togo where we had the Ad Hoc Committee on budget, so with this you are exposing MPs to every part of the sub-region”.

And further added that most of the places he travels to within the sub-region he has not been there before and this enhances his knowledge of the people and helps him to appreciate the rich culture of the sub-region.

We need to encourage other countries not to always host these meetings in their national capitals, it should move to other parts of the country to enable us to feel the people and the people feeling us. Ghana and Nigeria have been at the fore front of this, he added.
