The youngest Parliamentarian in Ghana’s ninth Parliament and an observer to the ECOWAS Parliament, Millicent Yeboah Amankwah is calling on younger women to know their role; stating that if that education goes down well, they will be able to play the key role that women envisage as part of the women empowerment crusade.

Speaking at a panel discussion on the topic: “Strengthening Governance towards the Realisation of ECOWAS Vision 2050: Impact of Gender Parity, Laws, and Allocation of Reserved Seats”, at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Female Parliamentarians Association (ECOFEPA) dialogue session as part of the Parliament’s 25th anniversary celebration in Abuja-Nigeria, during the Second Ordinary Session 2025, she noted that the role of women across all spheres of life is crucial and they must be helped to be active and efficient.

Elated to be given the opportunity to be part of the ECOWAS parliament, she said women are capable of doing many things with mentoring as one of the key roles; but reminded her colleagues that it is important to understand that they are not competitors. “We are collaborators, and we should know that we should assist each other”.

For women in active politics, she identified election financing as one of the areas that women should be assisted to encourage a lot more to avail themselves for positions; but noted that they can also count on their numbers, hence there is the need for them to come together and put up a better strategy to overcome that hurdle.

“This year’s International Women’s Day celebration was on accelerated action, and “what has been our strategy this year?” She queried.
