Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has declared that his side will oppose any attempt by the Majority to expedite bills and policies through Parliament using certificates of urgency.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, January 26, 2026, under the theme “Holding Government to Account: A Year of Active and Responsible Minority Scrutiny in Ghana’s 9th Parliament,” Afenyo-Markin stated that the Minority would employ every legitimate parliamentary tool available to them.
He emphasized that their resistance would remain within the bounds of the law, utilizing the standing orders of Parliament, the Constitution, and all relevant governing statutes.
The Minority Leader made these remarks in anticipation of the first meeting of the second session of the Ninth Parliament.
