The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus has expressed satisfaction with its performance in holding the government accountable, vowing to intensify pressure despite its small numbers in Parliament.

Speaking at a two-day Minority Caucus Workshop in Accra under the theme “The United Front: Forging a cohesive parliamentary strategy post-primaries,” Minority Chief Whip Annoh Dompreh said the caucus has never been intimidated by its minority status and has delivered on the expectations of Ghanaians.

“In a rather short time with a small minority, we have managed to achieve a lot, and we need to be proud about this,” Dompreh stated. “Truly, we have distinguished ourselves as a mighty minority, and we need to sustain this momentum and put pressure on the government with one voice and one heart.”

The Chief Whip acknowledged that about a year and a half ago, the party faced a difficult period rebuilding after setbacks in the last general elections. However, he noted that the caucus’s willingness to stay the course has moved them “from momentary bleakness to a posture of liveliness.”

“I can confidently say that we have bounced back stronger, more agile, well informed, and indeed ready to take on 2028 with tactics and strategies that will marvel our counterparts,” Dompreh declared.

Dompreh further noted that over the past 16 months since the inauguration of the ninth parliament, the minority caucus has done commendable work in holding the government to account, despite suffering personal attacks, including incidents at members’ homes.

The caucus has implemented several strategies to enhance its effectiveness, including a mentorship roster pairing first-time MPs with experienced members to refine their presentations on the floor. First-time members have also been assigned to leadership roles on committees to boost their contributions during key debates.

Turning to recent government actions, the Minority criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government over the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 financial statement, which it described as “unnecessarily politicized and prematurely addressed.” The caucus also condemned the recent cocoa producer price reduction, calling it “the biggest deceit devised by the NDC government” and urging government to cushion affected farmers.
