The Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, has handed over 5,000 single-unit tables and chairs to the Education Directorate of the Ga East Municipal Assembly, in a move aimed at tackling the persistent furniture deficit in public schools within the constituency.
The presentation, which took place at the assembly’s premises, forms part of the MP’s broader commitment to improving educational infrastructure and creating a more conducive learning environment for students.
“This donation will make a meaningful difference, but it is only part of my broader commitment to strengthening education across the constituency,” Hon. Akurugu stated during the handover. She noted that the intervention is significantly different from what the government has already provided through the Ghana Education Trust Fund, underscoring her determination to complement national efforts with targeted local support.
Receiving the furniture on behalf of the directorate, the Ga East Municipal Education Director, Mr. Eric Sey, expressed profound gratitude for the MP’s sustained interventions in the education sector. He assured that the items would be distributed swiftly, with priority given to examination centres to ensure students have the needed comfort as they prepare for their assessments.
The donation comes at a critical time when many public schools across the country continue to grapple with inadequate furniture, which often forces pupils to sit on floors or share cramped seating arrangements. Stakeholders have welcomed the gesture as a timely boost to teaching and learning conditions in the municipality.
