The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, has broken ground for the construction of a new maternity annex at the Bawjiase Polyclinic, marking a significant milestone in her ongoing efforts to overhaul healthcare infrastructure in the constituency.
The sod-cutting ceremony, which took place two days ago, was accompanied by a substantial material donation to support the facility and its patients. Hon. Tetteh-Agbotui personally provided blocks to kick-start the construction of the annex. In addition, she donated six hospital beds, six mattresses, 20 plastic chairs, and bedsheets to ensure that the Polyclinic can deliver quality care to mothers and residents alike.
Speaking at the event, the MP reiterated her commitment to fulfilling campaign promises focused on health and well-being. “Improving healthcare delivery is not just a policy for me; it is a necessity for the people of Awutu Senya West,” she stated. “This maternity annex will reduce the burden on our mothers and ensure they receive the care they deserve in a conducive environment.”
The maternity annex project is the latest in a series of health interventions spearheaded by the MP. Her lobbying efforts have already yielded critical results, including the completion of the Polyclinic’s surgical theatre by telecommunications giant MTN. Since its operationalization, the theatre has facilitated over 1,000 successful surgeries, drastically reducing the need for residents to travel long distances for surgical procedures.
Community leaders and health workers at the Polyclinic have welcomed the MP’s initiatives, praising her hands-on approach and resource mobilization. The new maternity wing is expected to significantly decongest the existing facility and improve maternal health outcomes in the constituency.
Hon. Tetteh-Agbotui has urged the contractor and health authorities to work diligently to ensure the project is completed on schedule, reaffirming that her office will continue to monitor progress and provide necessary support to safeguard the health of her constituents.
