Ayawaso West Wuogon is set to get a major educational boost. On August 5, 2026, Member of Parliament, John Dumelo cut the sod for a brand new day Senior High School at Pantang—and he’s aiming to get it done in just nine months.
The project, which is being built on land secured from the EP Church Ghana, is Dumelo’s latest push to tackle the constituency’s shortage of secondary school options.
The Vision: Expanding Access to Education
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, Dumelo emphasized that the new school is about filling a critical gap. Currently, the area has only one secondary institution, a STEM-focused school.
“I want to make Ayawaso a one-stop constituency when it comes to education, quality education,” Dumelo explained. “We only have one secondary school, which is the STEM, but that is more science related. And so I decided to look for land and let me construct a secondary school here.”
A True Community Effort
In a move that sets this project apart, Dumelo is insisting that the school be “for the community, by the community.”
* Local Workforce: All construction workers will be hired from within the constituency.
* Local Students: The school will exclusively serve children from the community.
* Private Funding: The project is fully funded by Dumelo and a group of private friends, with no reliance on state coffers (though support is already pouring in).
Donations Rolling In
The MP revealed that community members and businesses have already rallied behind the initiative, donating sandstone, cement, iron rods, and cash to speed up the process.
Timeline
With a nine-month construction target, Dumelo plans to have the physical structure completed by May 2027, with the first batch of students expected to walk through the gates by September 2027.
More Than Just Bricks and Mortar
This isn’t Dumelo’s first community-focused project since taking office. In January 2026, he went viral after distributing free fuel to taxi drivers at a Haatso filling station, earning him the nickname “MP papa paa” online.
He has also previously provided free buses for residents and students during transport crises and supported school feeding caterers with essential food items.
With this new SHS project, Dumelo is solidifying his reputation as a hands-on MP focused on tangible, grassroots development. All eyes will now be on Pantang to see if the nine-month deadline is met.
