Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has moved swiftly to address a critical water shortage at the Accra Training College in East Legon by drilling a borehole for the institution.
The intervention follows a water crisis that hit the campus last week, leaving students and staff struggling to access reliable water for drinking, sanitation, cooking, and other daily activities.
Mr Dumelo announced the development on social media on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, stating: “Last week, water shortages hit the campus of Accra Training College, East Legon. This morning I drilled a borehole to mitigate the issue”. He accompanied the post with the hashtag #idey4u.
The newly drilled borehole is expected to provide a reliable alternative water source for the college and help reduce the impact of future disruptions to the institution’s water supply. For students and staff, the gesture means water is now closer to campus, turning an unexpected crisis into an opportunity for a more sustainable solution.
This action is part of Mr Dumelo’s ongoing efforts to tackle water challenges affecting educational institutions in his constituency. In July 2024, he provided water tankers for students at the University of Ghana, Legon, after a water shortage left them struggling to access water. He has also previously supplied water tankers to residents in Okponglo and surrounding areas.
The borehole project has attracted significant attention online, with many Ghanaians praising the actor-turned-politician for responding to an immediate challenge with a practical, lasting solution rather than simply drawing attention to the problem.
The intervention comes amid broader water supply challenges in the Greater Accra region. Ghana Water Limited recently announced a planned three-day interruption to water supply affecting parts of the region, underscoring the ongoing need for alternative water sources.
For the Accra Training College community, however, the focus remains on the immediate relief – a borehole that now stands as a testament to responsive leadership in times of crisis.
