First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu had assured the Minority members there would not be reshuffle of Minister, whiles the Speaker Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye act as President.
Just after the Speaker Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye was sworn in as acting President, by the Chief Justice Sophia Akuffo, the Minority Members of Parliament started shouting reshuffle!! reshuffle!!
They further called for increase in salaries within the period the Speaker acts as President which generated a lot of laughter on the floor of the House.
Whiles the Minority referred to the first Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu as acting Vice President of the Republic. The Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu quoted, Article 60 (11) “where the President and the Vice-President are both unable to perform the function of the President, the Speaker of Parliament shall perform those function until the President or Vice-President assumes office, as the case may be”.
And noted that in the future it has to be interrogated, since the President was leaving Ghana to perform another function and does not see why another President should be sworn in, but the first Deputy Speaker indicated he was not in position to rule on the matter yesterday.
