Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Kwami Etse Dafeamekpor has called for the drafting of an unambiguous Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) law that is devoid of creating room for third party applications for rights to properties belonging to persons charged guilty of corruption.
He cautioned the OSP Bill, 2017 in its current form does not make explicit provisions to prevent a third party application to claim a property on behalf of any person who has been convicted of committing a corrupt act and is alive but has absconded as result.
Mr Dafeamekpor advocates the Bill should make provisions for a third party applications only under circumstances where interest in a property has metamorphosed to a beneficiary as a result of death but not where the person who committed the act is alive but has absconded.
This, he noted, can help the nation to sell off such properties to defray the loss caused as result of the corrupt act.
The lack of provision of a clear direction by the bill he said if not looked at has the tendency of creating problems for the nation in the long run because persons convicted of being corrupt can contract others to enter into third party applications to deny the state of its meager resources.
