The fates of 350 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in Zabzugu whose 2017 Integrated Science Examination results were cancelled are in limbo as the Ministry of Education has no immediate plans for them.
The Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh stated that the examination results of the pupils were cancelled as a result of their involvement in mass cheating hence the affected candidates can only register and re-sit the paper as private candidates in February, 2018 provided they were not banned by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
According to the Manhyia South MP, cheating affects everybody including the candidates themselves hence stakeholders should rather be concern about the harm of cheating in exams.
He called on all stakeholders to help educate candidates to work hard to enable them pass their exams instead of cheating.
Responding to an urgent question filed by Member of Parliament for Zabzugu, Alhassan Umar on what the Ministry of Education intend to do for the affected candidates, the Minister was not happy the MP was not concern about the fact that the students were involved in examination malpractices.
“You haven’t talked about the fact that these Pupils have been involved in examination maul practice’, ‘you haven’t addressed the fact that cheating affects everyone in the examination room” the minister fumes.
The Member of Parliament for the area was however not happy the Ministry of Education has left the pupils to their own fate; a situation he believes can result in the pupils dropping out of school.
