The honorable Member of Parliament for Salaga North, Alhaji Alhassan Mumuni is advocating government through the ministry of Interior for the institution of a two-day public holiday for the celebration of the annual Muslim feast of Eidul-Fitr, which marks the end of the thirty (30) day fasting, Ramadan.
He stated that a two-day holiday instead of one as it currently exist is needed to help overcome the challenges associated with the Eid festivities especially due to the unpredictability of the actual day in the lunar month of Ramadan which has 29 or 30 days for sighting the month.
The Salaga North constituency representative made the call on the floor of Parliament in a statement of the celebration of EidulFitr.
He explained that the two day holiday when the moon is sighted during week days would afford Muslim authorities and planners enough time to plan and organise the prayer grounds and activities at the national and regional levels conveniently after 30 days of the Ramadan fast.
It will also provide other state actors and the entire working Ghanaian community to plan their calendar accordingly.
Alhaji Alhassan Mumuni expressed optimism that his proposal would meet the kind consideration of the President and granted.
“I am optimistic that the His Excellency the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo will be more than gracious in accepting this humble proposal” he stated.
He charged all Muslims to incorporate the Ramadan lessons of sacrifice, commitment, goodwill and the fear of Allah learnt during the Holy month of Ramadan to make society a better placefor all.
The MP appealed to all Muslim celebrants especially the youth to be modest in celebrating the EidulFitr festivities and avoid any negative incidence that can mar the beauty of the occasion and wished all Muslims particularly his constituents “Eid Mubarak”, meaning Blessed Eid.
