The Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Deputy caretaker minister for Information Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwah has commended President John Mahama for establishing the ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection.
President Mahama last week nominated Gender Activist Nana Oye Lithur who is currently awaiting vetting to head that ministry.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show on Friday, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa described the President’s decision to introduce the new ‘Social Protection’ portfolio as a smart move as that will to a large extent ensure that issues relating to the various social interventions are well coordinated.
” We have a situation where social intervention such as LEAP, Capitation grant, free school uniforms, among others are put under different ministries making it a bit problematic” he said.
On the issue of intense lobbying by some persons for position in government, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa bemoan that behavior adding that it puts undue pressure on the President who needs his piece of mind to work efficiently.
He said the President having been a party man and having risen through the ranks knows the human resource materials at his disposal and will choose the ones who he believes best will help him run his administration effectively
