The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn, earlier this week joined a distinguished delegation of women in government to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehemaa, Nana Yaa Akyaa II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
The visit, which underscored the growing visibility of women in Ghana’s political and traditional leadership, was described by the MP as a moment of reflection and inspiration. The delegation comprised female appointees and public officials who sought the blessings and counsel of the Queenmother of the Ashanti Kingdom.
Speaking after the engagement, Hon. Aubynn emphasized the enduring value of Ghana’s traditional institutions and the exemplary leadership of the Asantehemaa.
“The Asantehemaa’s leadership and the rich heritage of our traditional institutions remind us that true leadership is about serving with humility, courage, and purpose,” she stated.
The Ablekuma North legislator further noted that women in positions of authority bear a sacred duty to pave the way for future generations.
“As women in leadership, we carry a responsibility to inspire the next generation and leave a meaningful impact wherever we serve,” she added.
The meeting at Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Ashanti Kingdom, is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen the relationship between female political leaders and traditional authorities. It also highlights the role of traditional leadership in guiding and supporting women in public service.
Nana Yaa Akyaa II, known for her advocacy for women’s empowerment and cultural preservation, received the delegation warmly and offered words of encouragement to the visiting leaders.
The visit concluded with a renewed commitment among the women in government to champion inclusive leadership, community development, and the empowerment of women and girls across the country.
