Through the initiative of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Avenor Ave, Edward Doe Adjaho, the GETfund has built a GHS760,000 two –storey ultra –modern library at Akatsi, the first of its kind in the region.
In recognition of his efforts in getting the facility built for the area, the Akatsi District Assembly has named it ‘Edward Doe Adjaho Library’.
It has an internet facility, offices and halls for group studies.
Mr Adjaho has provided computers and a quantity of books on different disciplines he sourced from the “Book for Africa”, an international non-governmental organization, to stock the library.
The ceremony was attended by Dr Bernard Kwasi Glover and Emmanuel Adzei – Anang, both members of the Council of State, who took turns to encourage the people to put the facility to good use.
Mr Adjaho commended the traditional authorities for providing the land for the facility, and the GETFund for financing it, and urged the people, especially school children, to use it to add to their knowledge for the development of the country.
He announced that the government had made available GHS 6 construction of a hospital for the area.
The Volta Regional Librarian, Elikem Tamakloe, entreated the people to empower themselves through using the facility to acquire knowledge, and appealed to others to contribute to stock it.
