Member of Parliament for Afram Plains South, Joseph Appiah Boateng, has been assaulted by police in Kwahu, Mpraeso in the Eastern Region.
The incident which took place over the weekend happened following a confrontation between the MP and a police officer when the officer accused him of flouting his instructions.
The Police officer is said to have used the butt of his gun to crack the tail lights of the MP’s vehicle which got the MP asking him what his offence was Legislator, the police man who was very incensed in the process hit the MP with the butt of the gun resulting in a cut on his eye brow.
“When the police man accosted me, I told him to calm down and talk to me and that I was an MP so he should not disgrace me and create a scene, but that even got him angry and he started hurling insults at me and as I tried to prevent him from holding me, he then hit me” he said.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show on Tuesday, Hon. Appiah Boateng stated that after the incident he was granted a police medical form with which he sought treatment at the hospital.
He noted that several high profile personalities in the Eastern Region including the Deputy Regional Minister, Deputy Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abbass, NDC Chairman, Mr Tawiah Boateng have impressed upon him not pursue the matter as they conduct investigation into the issue.
Hon. Appiah Boateng noted that he is currently recuperating and in good health.
