The Member of Parliament for the Akatsi North Constituency in the Volta region, Peter Kotoe Nortsu has donated 900 bags of cement to various communities in the Akatsi North District towards completion of self help projects.
Avega and Wuata Community which are putting up Community-based Health Planning and Service (CHPS) compound have each received 100 bags of cement, Dzalele and Dzadzefe got 100 bags each for rehabilitation of chiefs palace. The rest are Atiglime-100 bags for the construction of a community centre, 300 bags to Dzalele EP Church towards chapel building and Dzadzefe/Havi EP Church for Sunday school block.
The donation was in fulfillment of requests made to the MP during the campaign.
At the presentation ceremony, Mr. Nortsu commended the people for the initiatives and urged them to put the materials to good use. He was also grateful for their patient adding that he could have accomplished this last year but for the election petition which delayed everything.
District Chief Executive for Akatsi North, James Gunu also lauded the initiative of the people and implored them to rekindle the self-help spirit to find solutions to challenges confronting them in their communities. This according to him would accelerate development in the district to the benefit of all. He assured the people of the preparedness of the assembly to support such initiatives in whatever way possible.
Mr. Gunu noted that in the absence of a district magistrate court, the role of the traditional authorities in the adjudication of cases still remains relevant; as such he urged Dzalele and Dzadzefe to make sure they complete the palace rehabilitation on time to provide suitable place for the chiefs to do their work.
The DCE also added that a project like the community centre is in the right direction since it will help promote the town hall concept to enhance grass root participation in the democratic process.
