The Amansie East constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to Hon. Joe Osei-Wusu , the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bekwai who contested the 2008 election as independent candidate to stand as the parliamentary candidate on the ticket of NPP instead of going as independent in the coming elections.
According to the constituency, this would boost the morale of the teaming supporters who are waiting to hear a word from him to start their electioneering campaign.
A statement signed by Mr Kweku Mensah, Secretary, said ‘ we humbly ask Mr. Osei-Wusu to respond to our appeal to stand in the name of NPP instead of going independent as he did in the last election as our parliamentary candidate within 14 days.’
The statement said the Amansie East trump card is to bring on board the Mr Osei-Wusu into the forefront of the NPP winning-team for the constituency, adding that, ‘it is always difficult to win a major battle without a war commander’.
It said getting more votes to make Nana Akuffo Addo the ultimate winner in the 2012 presidential poll was a concern to the Amansie Society as well as to all stakeholders of the party.
In an interview with ghanamps.gov.gh, Hon Osei – Wusu expressed his desire and readiness to contest the upcoming December parliamentary election on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He stood as an independent candidate following some electoral problems he had with the party during the constituency primaries where he lost to the then incumbent MP by 69 to 70 votes.
Hon. Osei- Wusu said though he is willing to contest on the party’s ticket the final decision rest on the party executives to admit him back into the fold of the party, adding that the party has assured of re-admitting those MPs who went independent in the last election.
He noted that even though he’s an independent MP his commitment to the NPP has made him work consistently work with the party since 2008 to ensure Nana Akufo Addo wins the 2012 presidential election and will work further if he wins the nod to run on the ticket of the party.
