The Ghana Registered Nurses Association has described as unfortunate comments by Health Minister Alban Bagbin that, Pharmacists must be placed higher than nurses on the Single Spine pay policy.

The nurses are currently at level 18 same as the government pharmacists on the spine.

Mr Alban Bagbin told Joy News the pharmacists who are currently on strike deserve a higher grade.

But the Ghana Registered Nurses Association says the minister got it all wrong.

President of the association Kwaku Asante-Krobea told Joy News Mr Bagbin must retract and apologise.

“The point I am emphasizing is that the Minister got it all wrong by sounding like Pharmacists are better placed in health professional services than nurses.

“It is unfortunate. It has registered [in the minds] of the general public. We are calling on the Minister to retract his words and get the technocrats to advice him better on the position,” he said.

He added the educational background and qualification of the nurses cannot be lower than that of the Pharmacists, adding, even the population of the nurses alone in the health sector is enough to collapse the sector in the event of a strike.
