Minority leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has admonished the public to appreciate the work the Minority is performing on the Appointment Committee as part of vetting justices for the Supreme Court and understand where they are coming from.
This was after the Chairman of the Committee pointed out that a petition against one of the Supreme Court nominees, Justice Kweku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo was dismissed.
According to him they are not there to get personal, rather they are there to deal with the law and issues of public policy and good governance.
He stated; “for those saying you guys are lawyers why are you subjecting nominees to all these hard questions, when you appear before them, they are likely to do that to you; my answer to them as a person is, if the Speaker grants me the exemption to practice, I would do as I have always done, if a judge believes he should rule against me because I did my work, so be it”.
He pointed out that he has never been afraid to practice at the Supreme Court when he was in opposition between 2013 to 2016, stating that he was a regular visitor to the Supreme Court, and “I was never deterred by any action or any ruling against me”.
“I would do my job, and I would do so out of great difference; out of great respect and I am not here to attack anybody; those being inpatient and intolerant should please understand the space”.
