Parliament has confirmed the detention of Kwame Ohene Frimpong, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem North, at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 12, the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, said the matter had been brought to the attention of Parliament’s leadership.

According to the statement, the Speaker of Parliament and the House leadership are currently engaging Ghana’s mission in The Hague to gather detailed information about the incident.

“It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Honourable Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the Netherlands,” the statement read.

Parliament assured the public that updates would be provided as investigations and diplomatic engagements continue.

“The public will be duly informed appropriately on this matter,” the statement added.

No official reason for the detention has been disclosed yet.
