The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong says Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ebo Barton-Oduro must be removed from that high position of the land with immediate effect.
He said in view of Mr. Barton-Oduro’s involvement in the Waterville saga, still occupying that office will bring Parliament into disrepute.
As the then Deputy Attorney-General Ebo Barton-Oduro in the previous Atta Mills’ government was active in the Waterville-Woyome saga and is remembered for his infamous statement that the payment of the judgment rather saved the state money and that the state had no case defending the issue in court.
However the Supreme Court on Friday directed Waterville Holdings Ltd. to return to the state €25 million ($47 million) it obtained illegally arising out of claims it brought against the state in 2009.
This was after former Attorney-General Martin Amidu argued that neither Waterville nor businessman Alfred Agbese Woyome, who also obtained similar payments, had a valid contract with the state to warrant the payments.
The highest court of the land by a unanimous decision ruled in favour of Martin Amidu ordering that the monies paid Waterville in the judgment was illegal and must be refunded.
However speaking on Accra based Okay FM Monday Hon. Ken Agyapong stated that he had been proven right by the court ruling after he raised the issue earlier on the floor of Parliament.
He said the Mr. Barton-Oduro is not fit to lead the House judging by his conduct in this case that nearly robbed the country of such huge amount of money and further urged other MPs to join in the call if they want to protect the integrity of Parliament.
