With some few hours to the official declaration of Dr Mahamadu Bawumia as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) running mate for the December elections, the Member of Parliament for the Askimua-Odoben-Braka constituency, P.C. Appiah Ofori, insist Dr Bawumia will be a wrong choice for the NPP as he cannot garner much of the northern votes that the NPP needs to boost its chances of victory.

According to him, Dr Bawumia who was the party’s running mate for the 2008 election contributed insignificant votes even in the northern region where he comes from, a situation which led to the defeat of the NPP in the last polls.

Dr Bawumia is widely tipped among other candidates such as Alhaji MND Jawula and Ambrose Dery to be announced today Thursday 29th March 2012 to once again partner Nana Akufo Addo in the upcoming December general election which promises to be keenly contested by the two main parties, NDC and NPP.

Speaking to Ghanamps.gov.gh, Hon. PC Appiah Ofori stated that the NPP’s chances of winning power will be much easier with the choice of Alhaji MND Jawula who is a respectable traditional ruler in the north and could easily garner support from his other colleague northern chiefs.

He was confident his Alhaji Jawula’s choice will be the best bet for the NPP as northerners hold in the highest regard their chiefs, adding that his selection would inure to the benefit of the party.

P.C Appiah Ofori, was of the view that Dr. Bawumia, who was former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana will better serve the future NPP government as an excellent Governor of the Bank of Ghana and not a vice president.
