Minister for Roads and Highways Governs Kwame Agbodza has told Parliament the “Big Push” projects aimed at addressing road infrastructure constraints across the country under the John Mahama Administration would start in three weeks.

He made this disclosure when he took his turn to debate the mid-year budget review on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

He further pointed out that the Dambai bridge would be one of the projects to kick start the programme and further warned consultants and contractors who would abandon any road project or execute shoddy works would be forced to take insurance which would be taxed to correct the shortfalls.

“If you do a bad job and all who have taken government money for work and the works are not done, we are investigating, and we would come after you.”

On the accusation that most of the roads under the Big Push are roads inherited from the previous administration, he said that is the way to go because money has already been spent and yet the roads are not completed. “The Kasoa to Winneba Road construction money has run out; but President Mahama said it should be put on the Big Push – you should be happy”, he added.

He sent a strong warning saying “if you are a contractor, local or foreign, if you breached our laws we would deal with you. That is why I said the India company that took our thirty million dollars pretending that we should terminate the contract, I would not. They either build the road to the tune of thirty million dollars or we would find ways of taking our money”.

H affirmed that the Big Push is not the only road project they are doing, and that it is just a special vehicle to address the interconnectivity from our regions to the capital. Re-setting, he said means we are taking road infrastructure to every part of the country, “if you do not like it, you can do whatever you want when you come to power, but we would take road to everywhere”, he affirmed.

He critisised the Minority for their double standards with the Big Push, stating that in one breath they are accusing us for including roads started by the previous government, and in another breath, they are saying we are not taking projects onto the big push.
