Member of Parliament for Suame and Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has said construction of roads in the constituencies is not the duty of the lawmaker.

According to the Majority Leader the common fund given to the MP cannot construct roads and rather it is the duty of the sector Minister and the Assemblies to do.

“Our roads are not good at all, this is what people use against me, some say I am the one not allowing the roads to be done, roads are not the work of the MP, it is the President and his Ministers and also the Assemblies”.

He further pointed out in an interview that as an MP your job is to lobby government if they listen to you, they work on your roads for you, if not you cannot do anything.

He made this remarks when he took road engineers, Assembly members and the Municipal Chief Executive round to inspect some bad roads in the constituency that are to  be worked on. Among the bad roads that are not in good shape are, Abusakruwa, Suame old and new, Kronum Kwapra just to mention a few.

Again, the former Roads and Highways Minister in the previous administration Alhaji Sulemana my class mate at KNUST, came to help me by asphalting 2.5kilometers of road for us after three years they are damaged, he added.

“You recall former President Mahama in one of his state of the nation address said has constructed roads in the Ashanti Region, but people said he had not done roads and if he has not done any road they should ask me, it was Abusuakruwa road”.
