The Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Avenor-Ave, Mr Doe Adjaho, has donated relief items to flood victims in some communities in his constituency.
Last month, owing to heavy rain fall, several communities in the Akatsi District of the Volta Region suffered destruction after the rainfall killed a number of people and destroyed farms and properties worth millions of Ghana Cedis.
As a result, some people in affected communities were rendered homeless and have to depend solely on relatives, government and the benevolence of well-wishers for survival.
To reduce the agony of the communities, the MP, accompanied by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Akatsi, Mr Peter Nortu-Kotoe, visited and distributed large quantities of relief items to the affected people in the district.
The items which included maize, beans, oil, plastic cups and plates, used clothes and others were shared equally among all the communities.
The gesture was done in zones, and the first of the zones was Torve which comprised of communities such as Agordoe, Torve, Live, Moryi and Nugblebi.
In the Wute Zone, communities such as Adeheta, Logote-Wuive, Wute Logote, Ahlihadzi and Wuive benefited from the MP’s kindness.
At the Gornikope Zone, communities such as Avadre, Kpevi, Tsive, Kpotavi,Ablorkpo, Have, Kporwuvi,Gornikope,Kpevenu,Klokpe,Tetemale,Alorkpa,Sadame,Sremanu and Dzave were the beneficiaries. Affected communities in the Avenorpeme Zone were also not left out, as villages such as Xavi, Horti,Apeyime, Seshime Akeve did benefit.
Lastly, at the Ave-Dzalele Zone, communities such as Kpegbadza-Atanve, Atanve,Agbondo, Dzalele the same relief items were distributed to the people.
It will be recalled that last month, parts of the country, especially the Eastern Region and some communities in the Volta Region, unfortunately, experienced severe rainstorm which claimed lives and destroyed farms, buildingS and other properties worth millions of cedis.
Due to resource constraints although government, through the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), released several relief items to the affected communities, the communities needed more assistance, and it is anticipated that donations such Mr. Adjaho’s would go a long way to affect, positively, the lives of the communities.
