A member of Ghana’s delegation to the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Parliament, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah has said the Commission president, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray would have been impeached by now if the Parliament had legislative powers.

According to him Dr. Touray does not have “teeth to bit” as he is being remotely controlled by the Heads of States of the sub-regional bloc at the (whims and caprices) of the Heads of States.

In an interview as to whether there is hope for the sub-regional bloc, he noted that it’s a difficult question to answer he has been thinking of that, in the wake of developments within the sub-region with Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger exiting the bloc and current development in neighbouring Togo with bothers his constituency.

“Dr Touray must crack the whip, is see him as a toothless bull dog , things should be done properly if we had elected MPs in the Community Parliament with legislative powers he would have been impeached already”, he noted.

And further added that he is trusting that the sub-regional bloc has learnt lessons from the exit of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali.

Again, Guinea-Bissau is not any good example to talk about because, “how can president Umaro Sissoco Embaló be a former chair of the Authority of Heads of States and Government. This should not happen in any proper democracy”.

Someone who does not have parliament, one person who can decide to dissolve parliament and is a former chair of ECOWAS, it does not work anywhere let us pray that what is happening in Togo now there would be a wakeup call.
