Preparation towards commemoration of the first anniversary of late President John Evans Atta-Mills whose death occurred on July 24, 2012 is currently ongoing, Member of Parliament for Ekumfi Constituency, Hon. Abeiku Crentsil has indicated.

According to the MP, letters have been sent to the presidency as well as relevant offices concerning headway of the anniversary but affirmed that no official responds have so far been received.

The letter, he noted seeks to draw government’s attention to the anniversary as well as its commitment to fast track the completion of the Otuam road since the anniversary is expected to take place at Ekumfi Otuam, the late president’s hometown.
He disclosed this to GhanaMPs.gov.gh’s correspondent Emmanuel Frimpong Mensah.

Life of Late Prof J. E.A Mills

Late Professor John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills was born on July 21st, 1944, at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana and hails from Ekumfi Otuam in the Ekumfi Constituency of the Central Region.

He was once a Vice President of Ghana in 1997-2000 and became the President in 2008. He died as a sitting President on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the 37 military Hospital few hours after he was rushed there.

He was survived by a wife Ernestina Naadu Mills, an educationist, and a son, Sam Kofi Atta Mills.

His burial place, Asomdwee Park near the former seat of government at Osu has been turned into a tourist site.
